Save Instagram Video to iPhone

No app or shortcut: download in Safari, then move the video from Files into Photos in two taps.

Works with public posts only. Download videos you made, have permission to use, or want to keep for personal viewing — and credit the creator if you share. See our terms and copyright policy.

Step 1: Copy the Instagram link

In the Instagram app, open the Reel or post, tap the paper-plane icon, then Copy link.

Step 2: Download in Safari

Open this page in Safari, tap Paste in the box above and tap Download MP4. When the Download button appears, tap it. Safari may ask "Do you want to download…?" — tap Download.

A small arrow appears in the address bar. Tap it to watch the progress; Reels usually finish in a second or two.

Step 3: Move it into Photos

  1. Open the Files app → Browse → Downloads (or tap the file in Safari's download list).
  2. Tap the video to open it.
  3. Tap the Share icon (square with an up-arrow), then Save Video.

The video is now in Photos → Recents, with no Instagram watermark — ready to edit in CapCut or iMovie, or repost.

FAQ

Where do downloaded Instagram videos go on iPhone?

Safari puts them in the Files app, in the Downloads folder — either On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, depending on Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads.

Why isn't there a Save Video option?

Usually the download hasn't finished yet. Tap the download arrow in Safari's address bar and wait for it to complete, then open the file again from Files.

Can I use Chrome on iPhone?

Yes. Chrome on iPhone also saves downloads to the Files app, under Chrome or Downloads. The rest of the steps are the same.
